My name is Jennifer Palmer. I teach third grade at Stevenson Elementary in room 109.
My Education/Professional background: I love to learn! I have three bachelor's degrees from Ohio State University in English, German and Women's Studies.
In college, I had three experiences studying abroad. One summer I lived in Dresden, Germany and attended the university there. I studied in Utrecht, the Netherlands for a summer. Finally, I lived in Germany for a year- I attended the University of Hamburg in Hamburg, Germany. I think I am still somewhat fluent in German today and I can speak a little Dutch.
After college, I went on to teach Head Start preschool in Columbus for 3 years. The Head Start program I worked with partnered with Franklin County MRDD -- the Head Start children were the peer models for children with special needs. Because of this, I have a lot of experience working with children of diverse backgrounds.
I finished my Master's thesis in Early Childhood Education in 2006 at the Ohio State University. My topic of study was "Literary Discussion Contexts."
I worked for Marysville City Schools for 5 years teaching second grade. I really enjoyed my time there, but the commute from my home in Columbus was difficult, especially in the winter. Last year I was hired by Grandview- not only am I teaching in an excellent school district, but I’m also very close to home!
I like to travel, hike, garden, camp, and read! One time my husband and I went on a 37 mile hiking trip on the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan. My favorite hiking experiences have been on mountains- I even got engaged on Mount Elbert in Colorado! This past summer we spent some of our time hiking in the Catskills with our 2 year old son Collin. I have to admit, I was a little nervous taking him out in bear country, but he did a great job not leaving food all over the ground J
I’m really looking forward to this school year! One of my biggest interests lately is how to integrate technology with traditional education. We will be doing all sorts of awesome things with blogs, wikis. iPods, etc. this year! I have a lot of great ideas and I’m sure the children do as well! Please email me at any time! I really enjoy keeping in contact with parents.
