Students needed extra instruction meet with the teacher to receive this instruction. The flow usually includes:

  1. Discussing what when wrong on the quiz
  2. Going over unit lesson that corresponds to the assessment
  3. Defining and taking notes in math journals
  4. White board work and/or
  5. Some active way to construct the problems (pattern blocks, geoboards, base-ten blocks). This helps reach other styles of learning and presents learning in a new way.
  6. Independent practice: Usually a computer game about the subject. Example: this game was used for independent practice after reviewing fractions: Fraction Match

Depending on the number of children who struggle with the subject and/or my observation of small group responses, I may choose to repeat another assessment with students to check in on their comprehension of the skill.
