Leah, Great job adding a date! I think you are on the right track with the main idea. I'm wondering what the biography was trying to say about her early life? Was it good? Bad? Or did it influence her later life as the founder of the Red Cross? Let me know what you think about this.

2/9/11 Mom and I talked about this and we do not think that being sick made Clara want to start the red Cross. Clara saw the International Red cross there and that influenced her to start the American Red cross.

Great Leah! One thing I'd like you to try is to write the main idea in a full sentence, like, "The main idea was that she started a new career in her later life." I'm so impressed also that you are remembering to put a date on each entry! Leah, you are working hard! -MsP

2/14/11 I read Clalar Barton, Angel of the Battlefield. The two chapters I read were about Clara helping people. This was the main /central idea. She was a young nurse and a young teacher.

This sounds good, but could you rewrite it so that it says, "The main/central idea is that Clara helped people." This sounds better and it's how they want you to write for the OAA. Also, Leah, you are doing so good with your homework sentence that I'm going to give you a challenge: see if you can figure out how to underline the book title...Hmmm...I bet you'll figure this out in no time!!! -MsP
